EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF HORSES FROM THE GROUND UP
Unmounted Learning Programs at Hidden Acres
Unmounted learning programs, including our Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) sessions, are designed to provide therapeutic, educational, and experiential benefits through ground-based activities that promote self-awareness, communication, and confidence. Adults and children over the age of 7 work with horses in a mindful way, learning about horse communication, care, and safe horsemanship skills while building mutually trusting relationships. Our unmounted sessions cater to individuals of all abilities, including those with physical limitations or who may feel apprehensive about traditional riding. An assessment is required prior to beginning sessions to ensure meaningful participation.

This approach allows participants to experience the therapeutic benefits of working with horses without the physical requirements or experience level needed for traditional riding.
Who can benefit from unmounted learning?
Unmounted learning is suitable for individuals 7 and older with physical limitations, those dealing with emotional challenges, youth developing social skills, and anyone seeking relaxation or personal growth. It’s also ideal for participants who may feel apprehensive about traditional horseback riding.
What kinds of activities are included in an unmounted session?
Unmounted sessions typically involve activities such as grooming, leading, communicating with, and caring for the horses. These exercises are designed to build trust, nonverbal communication skills, and mindfulness, and they allow participants to connect with the horses in a safe, supportive setting.
Do I need any prior experience with horses to participate?
